Peer Review Process
All manuscripts submitted to Built Environment Innovation (BEI) are subjected to a thorough screening and review process to ensure they align with the journal's scope and maintain high academic quality and originality. BEI uses a single-blind peer review process, meaning that the reviewers know the authors' identities, but the authors do not know who the reviewers are. The review process involves the following steps:
- Initial Screening: Upon submission, manuscripts are first screened by the Assistant Editor to ensure they meet the basic submission requirements. Then, one of the Editors-in-Chief checks if the manuscript fits the journal's scope and standards. Manuscripts that do not pass this initial check will be rejected without further review.
- Peer Review: Manuscripts that clear the initial screening are assigned to a handling editor, who forwards them to at least two subject matter experts for a single-blind peer review.
- First Decision: A decision on the manuscript is made after receiving at least two review reports. The manuscript may be rejected, returned for revisions (either major or minor), or accepted. If accepted, the manuscript will be sent back to the author for final formatting. The Editor-in-Chief makes the final decision to accept the manuscript, based on the handling editor's recommendation.
- Revision Stage: If revisions are required, the manuscript is returned to the author, who is given up to three weeks to make the necessary changes. The handling editor will review the revised manuscript to ensure the changes are sufficient and that the author's responses to the reviewers' comments are adequate. If further revisions are needed, this process may be repeated.
